History
The Higher Synthesis Foundation was founded in 2011 by Martha R. Herbert, PhD, MD as the Delaware-based Aufhebung Foundation, DBA (doing business as) the Higher Synthesis Foundation.
Aufhebung is a German word that affirms the interrelationships and unity of things and phenomena. It relates to preserving elements of phenomena in a higher synthesis, and it relates to transcendence. A poetic definition of Aufhebung is “turning problems into art.”
In early 2020 the Aufhebung Foundation transitioned to its present Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3) public charity, whose legal name is Higher Synthesis Foundation, Inc.
