History
The Higher Synthesis Foundation was founded in 2011 by Martha R. Herbert, PhD, MD as the Delaware-based Aufhebung Foundation, DBA (doing business as) the Higher Synthesis Foundation.
Aufhebung is a German word that affirms the interrelationships and unity of things and phenomena. It relates to preserving elements of phenomena in a higher synthesis, and it relates to transcendence. A poetic definition of Aufhebung is “turning problems into art.”
In early 2020 the Aufhebung Foundation transitioned to a Massachusetts-based 501(c)(3) public charity, whose legal name is Higher Synthesis Foundation, Inc. In 2023 the Higher Synthesis Foundation shifted its center of operations to rural central Tennessee where it registered as a foundation and has been engaged in planning and implementing its Rockhouse Land Eco-Farm-Health Project.
